Who can be exempt from the CLAST?

The 1997 Legislature and the State Board of Education approved the following conditions under which any student may be exempt from the CLAST if the student fulfills one or more of the following requirements before completion of the undergraduate degree program.

Alternative based on the SAT I or EACT scores (or the equivalent scores on the original SAT and ACT score scales):

Alternative based on the student’s GPA:

Student must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above in designated college coursework identified by the State Commission.

Communication:

Exemption from the three communication sections of CLAST can be achieved by obtaining a 2.5 GPA in the following two courses for a minimum six semester hours of credit.

  • ENC 1101 - English I or other equivalent college level English course
  • ENC 1102 - English II or other equivalent college level English course

Computation:

Exemption from the computation section of CLAST can be achieved by obtaining a 2.5 GPA in two courses, minimum of six semester hours of credit.

Any two of the following:        

  • MAC 1105 or any other MAC course with the last three digits higher than 105
  • MGF 1106 or any other MGF course with the last three digits higher than 106
  • STA 1014 or any other STA course
