 Taken

 

This status means that the student has already completed the course in a previous semester. There are three different ‘Types’ within the ‘Taken’ Status:

  • EN – means ‘Enrollment’ and those are native FIU courses.
  • TR – means ‘Transfer’ and those are transfer courses from another institution.
  • TE – means ‘Test Credit’ and those are Test Credits for tests such as the CLEP.      

In Progress 

This status means that the student is currently enrolled in that particular class when the degree audit was requested. This status only has one type:

  • IP – means ‘In Progress’.

Planned

This status means that the student has added courses to his/her planner. This means that the student is planning to take that course in a future term.

What If

Advisors and students can add ‘what-if’ courses under the WH-IF report. Note: For What-If courses select the current or future term.

There are three requirement completion statuses:

  • Satisfied: Student has successfully completed all the course work needed to satisfy this requirement.
  • In Progress: This requirement is satisfied upon successful completion of courses in which the student is currently enrolled.
  • Not Satisfied: Student must complete all outstanding coursework as outlined in the Degree Audit Report in order to satisfy this requirement.

This button collapses all requirements within the report and displays only Requirement Groups.

This button expands all requirements within the report and displays all course lists.

Report Type

There are three main Reports you will use:

  • ADV – Academic Advisement Report.
    • The advisement report is the degree audit report that reflects a student's progress toward graduation. The report provides course details about the courses that are available and the courses already taken.
    • This is the same type of report that is run using your ‘Advisor Center’.
    • WH-IF – What-If Advisement Report
      • The What-If report is used to run a simulated advisement report for a student that shows degree progress based on courses the student proposes to take.  You can also run a simulated academic advisement report based on simulated careers, programs, plans, and sub-plans.
    • PLAN – Planning Advisement Report allows advisors to see planned courses by the students by placing them in their ‘My Planner’.

My Planner (Advisor Center)

Displays planned courses by the student. These courses might be unassigned or assigned to specific future semesters. Courses in ‘My Planner’ are not place holders and do not check for pre-requisites.

Shopping Cart (Advisor Center)

Displays scheduled FIU courses the student will register once open enrollment is available. Courses in ‘Shopping Cart’ are not place holders and will not check for pre-requisites.

Requirements

Academic requirements are graduation rules that the students need to follow to successfully complete their academic objectives.

Requirements have the following hierarchy:

  • Requirement Groups [RG] – Contains one or more Requirements [RQ]
    • Undergraduate students will have at least 5 RGs:

­ University Core Curriculum Requirements

­  Undergraduate Requirements

­  Program-level Requirements

­ Additional Courses

­ Plan/Sub-Plan level Requirements

  • Graduate and Law students have one RG:

­  Plan/Sub-plan Requirements.

  • Requirements [RQ] – Contains one or more Requirement Lines [RQ/LN]
  • Requirement Lines [RQ/LN] – Specific courses that satisfy a Requirement [RQ]

Requirement Lines might include:

  • Course: Displays ‘Subject Area’ and ‘Catalog Number’.
  • Description: Course Description.
  • Units: We are transitioning from the term ‘credit hours’ to ‘Units’.
  • When: Display the term the course was ‘taken’ or is currently ‘in progress’.
  • Grade: Displays earned grade.
  • Notes: Displays exception comments.
  • Status: Displays if course was ‘taken’, ‘in progress’ or ‘planned’.
  • Type: Displays if course is native FIU, transfer or test.

 

 

Course List

A course list is a group of courses that can be used to satisfy an academic requirement. A course list can be a list of specific courses or a wildcard course list.

 

 

      Exceptions

Exceptions are used to modify existing requirements and make exceptions for a specific student. Exceptions enable you to override any part of a student's degree requirements.

There are five types of exceptions you can create or request (operation code):

  1. Course Directive – allows a course that is not normally accepted into a Requirement or Line to satisfy a Requirement.
    1. Undergraduate Advisor: We recommend using native FIU courses and transfer courses that appear in the ‘Additional Courses’ section.
    2. Graduate GPD:  We recommend to use native FIU courses and transfer courses that appear in the ‘Additional Courses’ section.
    3. Requirement Waiver – is used to bypass a specific academic requirement.
    4. Requirement Change – is used to modify the amount of units or courses needed to complete a Requirement or Line.
    5. Requirement Override – is used to replace a specific academic requirement.
    6. Transfer Credit Rule – is used to create individual or general rules for transfer courses. The transferred course takes the FIU’s course identity and is used to satisfy requirements. This exception can be requested only by using the ‘Request Transfer Credit Rule’ form.

This form enables advisors to request individual or general rules for transfer courses.

 

Request Student Exceptions form

This form enables advisors to request exceptions (course directive, requirement waiver, requirement change and requirement override).

 

Pagelet Summary

This pagelet allows advisors to see a high level summary of the degree audit. In May 2011 this will be available for students.

  • Advisors can create advising comments (ADV) in PantherSoft.
  • The advisor AC comments from SASS were brought into PantherSoft. Undergraduate advisors can view SASS comments in PantherSoft.
